About CCRI

Cherished Care & Residences Inc. (CCRI) is a Suffolk County-based nonprofit working to strengthen community-based support for individuals with developmental disabilities and the families who support them. CCRI was created to help bridge the gap between unmet needs, family stress, and the lack of trusted local options.

Our Mission

People participating in a craft activity at a community center, with caregivers and seniors working together on colorful paper projects, and volunteers facilitating the activity, inside a well-lit room with community posters on the wall.
Building
Homes!

To build compassionate, person-centered support that helps individuals with developmental disabilities and their families access greater stability, dignity, and community connection in Suffolk County.

Our Vision

We envision a community where individuals with developmental disabilities are supported not only through services, but through real belonging, practical opportunities, stronger families, and trusted local systems of care.

Why CCRI exists

What makes CCRI different

CCRI was founded from lived experience, caregiving values, and a direct understanding of the challenges families face when trying to navigate fragmented systems, long waitlists, limited transportation, and future uncertainty. Our goal is to create support that is both practical today and scalable for tomorrow.

  • Community-rooted and Suffolk County focused

  • Built with lived caregiving and DSP experience

  • Focused on practical support, not just promises

  • Designed to grow toward transportation, day support, residential care, and stronger family navigation

  • Committed to long-term, person-centered community impact

Building With Purpose

CCRI is more than an organization—it is a growing commitment to compassionate support, meaningful opportunity, and stronger community connections for those too often left navigating complex systems alone.

Meet the Founder

Danaysha Douglas,
Founder & Executive Director

Danaysha Douglas founded Cherished Care & Residences, Inc. after more than six years working directly as a Direct Support Professional within New York’s I/DD service system. Working alongside individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in structured care environments, she witnessed firsthand how gaps in local support, transportation barriers, and workforce instability push manageable situations into crises — particularly for families in Suffolk County who lacked nearby, trusted options.

As a Suffolk County native, Danaysha recognized that most I/DD service providers operating on Long Island are headquartered in Nassau County or New York City, creating geographic and cultural distance for the communities that need them most. CCRI was built to close that gap — locally rooted, community-accountable, and designed to grow with the people it serves.

Her experience spans direct care, family navigation, behavioral health-adjacent support, and organizational development. She holds dual roles as Board President and Executive Director, and has independently built CCRI’s governance infrastructure, compliance frameworks, and service model from the ground up.
